PVC-U Pressure Pipe Size Guide
PVC-U Pressure Pipe is listed in either Metric (millimetres) or Imperial (inch) based measurements, and the systems are not directly interchangeable
It is important to know that metric sizes are not inch sizes converted into millimetres, and that they are different. Understanding the difference is essential for choosing compatible pipe, fittings and valves for your current system.
PVC-U Pressure Pipe is recommended to be measured using the OD (outside diameter)
Metric sizes will measure as they are written, 16mm will measure as 16mm, 20mm will measure as 20mm, and so on.
The exceptions to the rule are 2½" & 75mm, and 5" & 140mm, as they happen to be the same.
Imperial Measures are as follows:

Please note that pipe wall thickness can cause slight variations in actual measurements, typically around ±0.1–0.2 mm from the values shown. These figures represent average dimensions and are intended as a general guide to help you identify the correct size when measuring your pipework.
